Online safety – Youtube concerns

In the past week we have encountered incidents of online bullying against our pupils by users who can not be determined as being from our school via Youtube comments and postings.

This has prompted us to raise awareness and the huge importance of being safe online. At St Agnes we pride ourselves on how well our pupils understand and use this aspect of ICT in school, however outside of school it is vital that children are able to be protected as best as can be possible.

Please ensure yourselves in knowing what your children are using their tablets, phones and laptops for.

Set up security access so children are limited to what they can access.

Monitor what they are watching on Youtube and also comments that are posted underneath the videos as they may be unsuitable.

We are planning on holding a workshop around being safe online for parents.

As part of our Rights Respecting School initiative we hold the Right Click workshops for parents and pupils – and this will be done again as soon as dates are available. Please click here for more information on this.
