A Squash and a Squeeze…

This week we were learning about the first book Julia Donaldson ever wrote, ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. The children enjoyed learning how to enjoy the story in lots of different ways, first we read the book, then we listened to the author sing the story. After that we decided to think of actions we could do to retell the story alongside Julia Donaldson singing it, can your child remember the actions we decided for the following words in the story; Little Old Lady, Wise Old Man, house, hen, cow, pig, goat. Finally, we had the opportunity to act out the story ourselves. Can your child tell you what their favourite way to hear/tell the story is? You can watch Julia Donaldson and her husband perform the story here…

This story also fits in nicely with our trip to the farm next week. The children have been so excited all week, we have made a calendar countdown, can they tell you how many sleeps to the farm? Our trip to Smithill farm is on Wednesday 28th March, please remember to bring a packed lunch for your child on the day in a plastic bag so it can all be thrown away once consumed. We are all so excited for our farm trip which is in preparation for next terms topic ‘growth and change’. Can your child tell you what they think they might see at the farm? If you would like to learn about the farm we are going to, here is a link to their website…
