Some children will start coming to Nursery full-time this week!

We have also had a delivery of new furniture. This will have changed the way the Nursery is laid out, so please be mindful of this when you come into the setting. Take time to explore the environment with your child before you leave and show them all the wonderful resources that we have on offer this week.
Starting nursery is a big step for both parents and children, so we suggest you keep ‘talk time’ to staff to a minimum in the mornings as staff try to settle the children for the day ahead. If you have a worry please don’t hesitate to talk to the staff but it may be better to talk at the end of the Nursery sessions, as mornings can be hectic in the Nursery.
What are we learning this week…
Our Topic in the Nursery this half term is Ourselves:
This week the focus will be training the children how to use the equipment and to feel safe in the setting. We will model the use the equipment, the areas of learning that we have on offer and the rules that will keep us all safe in the setting. This will be through a number of different stories linked to the golden rules; Do be Kind and Helpful, Do be Gentle, Do Look after Property, Do  Listen to People and Do Work Hard.
Important things your child needs in their Nursery Bag!
The sort of thing your child needs to take with them depends on their age, and what their personal needs are.
However, the following checklist offers you a general guide as to what you should consider including in your child’s bag:

Clothes

Your child will need a change of clothes labelled with their name in case he/she has an accident or gets mucky (this includes coats and shoes!). The children do have constant access to the outdoor environment too. So please make sure they have suitable shoes on, a pair of wellies on their peg and a coat if it’s cold and wet. If the weather’s hot, pack a sun hat and apply sun-cream in the morning.

Nappies and wipes
Pack enough for the day, plus spares just to be sure. If your child’s in full-time and still in nappies, ask the staff if you can leave a large stock of nappies and wipes in the bathroom to ease your child’s experience in the bathroom. Your child’s keyworker will let you know when they need a refill.
Keeping the children safe!
Medical Needs
At St Agnes we do not administer medicines such as antibiotics. If your child is on antibiotics and attending Nursery, we suggest you work their doses around their time at school, so not to affect their attendance.
If your child takes any prescription medicine such as an inhaler, please inform their Keyworker as soon as possible. The staff will need a labelled in date inhaler and a copy of your child’s Asthma Plan. This will inform the staff on when and how to give your child their inhaler. Just to be sure, write the same instructions on a sticky label and attach it securely to the inhaler and spacer(if one is needed). Each child who has Asthma will need an inhaler and their Asthma Plan in the Nursery at all times. This will be kept in a sealed tub in the Nursery. You will need to complete a form before the staff can give your child their medication as well.
Allergies
It is really important for staff to be aware of any allergies the children have so an allergy management plan can be written. This will be drawn up so that school know how to look after your child in the event of an allergic reaction. Then we have clear information available at school so that the Nursery staff can help your child make the most of their time at school, and can help them should we have an emergency situation.
If your child has any other medical needs please inform staff as soon as possible.
If this week’s Nursery post has raised any questions for you, please do not hesitate to speak to the Nursery staff.
Many thanks,
