“That every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.
That member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.”
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child not only incorporates current thinking with regard to children’s rights but also demands that the world think more deeply about children’s position as citizens and more broadly about their development than has commonly been the case. It asks that we look holistically at children’s lives and hear their own perspectives on issues affecting them.
As a result it is leading many nations to address elements of children’s lives that have been ignored but that represent our fundamental humanity. One of these – at the heart of children’s lives everywhere – is the right to play.
We have an exciting opportunity to change the playground using a fund raising technique called ‘Crowd Funding’. We are aware, as you will be, that our playground lacks inspiration and physical challenge for the children. To develop their risk taking skills, we need a playground that inspires and offers opportunities to develop core physical strength. To achieve our dream we need to raise around anything from £130,000- £77,000 depending on the provider we choose. Mr Lammas and Ms Lynton are currently filling in lots of forms to raise some money, from larger pot holders such as trusts and grants to support our dream! But we also need to start raising some money ourselves! So we are launching a crowdfunding webpage on Spacehive and will be seeking funding . So, how can you help?
Spread the message of our plans to all your friends and relatives so we can have as many people as possible supporting us
Visit our Spacehive page and make a pledge.
Call into school and support our funding by adding any spare cash you have in our fund raising bottle.
Our Playground Launch
Thank you to all of the parents who attended the Playground Launch Meetings this week. Many thanks to all of the children who have brought in their pocket money or Tooth Fairy money to add to our funding bottle too. You never cease to amaze the staff with your wonderful, thoughtful ways and this is why we are trying to get you the playground you deserve. We are extremely grateful for all yours and your families comments, support and ideas for our project and we will inform you of the winning playground plans, once a decision has been made.
In the meantime, take a look at ESP’s video which has been created to show you how their plans would look in reality. It’s amazing and has only ignited our passion for raising the money for our new playground even more!
