St Agnes’ Church Display
Churches across Manchester have marked the centenary of the Armistice with special services, parades, assemblies and exhibitions to honour the fallen in the First World War and conflicts since.
Among the commemorations in this centenary year, the community of St Agnes’ Church has come together to create a special exhibition and over 900 poppies that have been knitted that adorn the church, cascading down the pulpit and covering window ledges.
If you are looking to mark the centenary, the church is still open to visitors during November to see displays of information about WW1, including details about soldiers of Asian and Black heritage, the military hospitals set up in the local area and the contribution of women to the war effort. Sunday School children have also created a display of paper poppies and artwork.
As a part of this work, St Agnes’ CE children will also be visiting to add their own contribution of ‘pebble art’ to the church grounds. Our pebbles will be a part of the exhibition and see every child from school visit the church before the end of the week.
The exhibition is open for viewing on Mondays (26th November) from 10.30am to 1pm, Tuesdays (20th and 27th November) from 1.30pm to 3pm and Saturday 17th November) from 2pm to 4pm. Everyone is welcome to visit. You could take your family for a look around!
