Book Fair Week and Healthy Lunch Box Workshop

Nursery News

It’s a busy week this week in the Nursery. We will begin our local community walks as the children learn more about the community that surrounds them. These walks will take place over the next two weeks to ensure that the children cover the areas that surround the school. We will look at local shops, cafes and restaurants, shopping centres and banks, schools and doctors. We also are very fortunate to have a Mosque and St Agnes Church right next to the school. The children will be looking at how the community uses these buildings and how they support the communities they provide for.

Family Healthy Eating Workshop                     Tuesday 8th November  9:10am

As a team we review what the children have in their packed lunches daily. Many of the children have a balanced food selection that provides them with the daily dietary requirements for growth. But sadly, some are filled with sugary items such as chocolate spread sandwiches, chocolate bars, sugary drinks etc all of which have a significant impact on a child’s school day as well as their growth and development physically.

Following Ofsted’s report, Healthy Eating in Schools,  which assessed how schools have responded to guidance on school meals and healthier eating based on a small scale survey of primary and secondary schools.  We have decided we need to support families and make them more aware of the sugar and fat content in some foods in a healthy lunch workshop. Nationally their is increasing public concern about the quality of children’s diets and rapidly increasing rates of childhood obesity. So this workshop will support all parents understanding of what is and isn’t a healthy option. Please see Miss Lynton if you would like more information on the workshop or its content.
