On receiving the award, Aishat one of the Peace Mala Ambassadors commented: “This is the best day of my life. It is so good to know that we are already making a difference and we are only children!” Mr Uddin, Headteacher, responded to her comment with, “This is so true and you deserve this moment as you have all worked so hard, under extremely difficult circumstances. The pandemic did not make things easy for you but you did not give up and continued to share this important message. You should all be very proud of this achievement. Well done!”
Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, with St Agnes pupils
The school had been visited before lockdown by Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. Pupils had presented him with a Peace Mala bracelet and asked if he could help them spread the message further. He was extremely passionate about the message of the Peace Mala and said that they were way ahead of other schools, when thinking of what it means to be a peaceful school.
“Well done to everyone at St Agnes! You are sending out a fantastic message of friendship and peace to the world and it is what is so needed, especially at this present time with all the difficulties and challenges being presented by the Covid pandemic. Peace Mala focuses on guiding our young people to help create a more compassionate and just world. We look forward to more schools in Greater Manchester following your wonderful example and joining our growing family of accredited schools. “
