History activities for the holidays

Hello Year 1. Here are some history activities you might want to have a go at in the holidays.

1) We are going to create a timeline.

A timeline shows a period of time with different events marked on it. The events are put on the timeline in the order that they happened. A great way to describe this is – chronological order.

In your home learning book, draw a straight horizontal line. Just like this ______________________________________________.
This is your timeline. On your timeline can you label the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods? This information should be in your home learning book from the last History activity or you can watch the video again to help you.

Remember the periods need to go on the timeline in the correct order. So with an adult think which one happened the longest ago as this one will be first one you write on the timeline. The one that happened the least amount of years ago will be last. Write the years that they happened underneath the names of the periods.
Can you find out the name of a dinosaur that lived it each and draw them next to the correct period?

2) Can you remember what a person is called who is interested in and looks for dinosaur bones? I’ll give you a clue, it begins with a P.

Over 200 years ago, a woman called Mary Anning found dinosaur fossils in a place called Lyme Regis. Her findings helped scientists and the way people looked at the history of the world.
