Starter

In your home learning book write today’s date

Tuesday 5th May 2020

Draw a face to show how you are feeling today.

What’s the weather like today? Draw a picture to show the weather.

Phonics

We are going to practise the i-e split digraph a little bit more.

Yesterday we looked at reading words with the phoneme in. Today we are going to focus on spelling words with it in.

Can you read the words:

like, time, slide, pine, ripe, invite

Ask your adult to read these words and you spell them in your home learning book.

kite, prize, inside, side, outside, shine

Write the sentence:

The slide shines.

Now mark your work with your adult.

Using another i-e word can you make a new sentence?

English

Ask somebody to read the Beegu story to you while you do the actions you have made.

Beegu text

Do you remember this from the Beegu story?

‘Beegu felt lonely, so she decided to find some friends. She found a playground full of children.’

Have a look at the picture of a school playground below.

In your home learning book, write some sentences using adjectives (describing words) about what Beegu can see. Here is an example to help you.

Beegu can see green trees.

If you want to challenge yourself try and use ‘and’ in your sentences. Here is an example to help you.

Beegu can see green trees and blue sky.

Remember:

Aa – capital letters                    Sp – use your phonics to spell

finger spaces                            CE – spell tricky words correctly

. – full stops                          WOW – use exciting words

ABC – make capital letters the biggest

abc – form letters correctly

pqht – form ascenders and descenders correctly

Handwriting

Watch the video on Espresso for how to write g. Can you remember which letter family g belongs to?

Practise with your magic pencil in the air. Ask someone in your family to put a little bit of flour, salt or sugar (any powder will do) on a plate and practise making g in it.

Now practise writing g on the sheet in your home learning pack. Remember to start at the top inside the grey line. This letter is a descender so it has a long tail that goes below the grey line.

Science

Do you know what our 5 senses are and what we do with them? Do you know which part of the body we use for each of them?

Click the link below. Watch the video and play the game.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z9yycdm/articles/zxy987h

In your home learning book write the name of each sense, draw the body part we use for it and write 2 things that the sense shows you.

Here is an example.

Go on to Espresso, Foundation Stage, Understanding the World, Ourselves – Our Bodies, Senses

Watch the videos about the senses.

There are some senses activities in your home learning pack you can have a go at over this half term.

Music

Can you remember the name of the composer who wrote The Planets Suite?

Last time you listened to the movement called Mercury – The Winged Messenger.

Today you are going to listen to Venus – The Bringer of Peace.

Do you think this piece of music will sound the same as the other? Why do you think that?

What instruments do you think you can hear? What is the tempo like?  Does the music stay at the same tempo? What is the volume of the music like? Does the music stay at the same volume? How does the music make you feel?

Find the musical instrument you made a few weeks ago and play along with the music.

Can you dance to the music? How does the music make you want to move? Will your movements be fast or slow? Will they be smooth and floaty or sharp and jerky?

Talk to an adult or family member about the music. What do they think of it?
