Maths

Today we are going to begin looking at time.

We are going to be focusing on telling the time to the hour.

What do we use to tell the time?

Do you have a clock in your house?

How many hands are on the clock?

Can you see the longer hand? This is the minute hand.

Can you see the shorter hand? This is the hour hand.

When we are telling time to the hour we say o’clock.

When the longer minute hand is pointing at 12 it is o’clock.

The hour hand will point at one number on the clock.

See the example below.

The hour hand is pointing at 1 and the minute hand is pointing at 12.

The time is 1 o’clock.

Visit the link below and find the lesson Summer term – Week 11 (w/c 6th July) – Lesson 1.

Lesson 1 – Time to the hour

Can you share your answers with us?

What time is it on the first clock? 3 or 12 o’clock?

What time is it on the second clock? 3 or 12 o’clock?

Handwriting

Watch the Espresso video for how to write k. Can you remember which letter family k belongs to?

Practise with your magic pencil in the air. Ask someone in your family to put a little bit of flour, salt or sugar (any powder will do) on a plate and practise making k in it.

Now practise writing k on the sheet in LAST HALF TERM’S home learning pack. This letter is an ascender so it has a long neck that starts above the grey line.

Now watch the Espresso video for how to write p. Can you remember which letter family p belongs to?

Repeat the above activities for p. This letter is a descender so it has a long tail that goes below the grey line.
