Year 1 VE Day – 75th Anniversary Activities

Good morning Year One.

Today is a special day and one that is very important in British history. Today is VE day – Victory in Europe Day. On this date, 75 years ago, World War II came to an end. Today we will be thinking of those who fought to protect our country those many years ago and also the soldiers who continue to do so today. Use the link below to find out more about VE day.

Here is a summary of the facts about VE day.

VE Day

As you will have read, on VE day many people went out into the streets to celebrate. They waved flags and cheered. Although today we are unable to go out into the street to celebrate, you can make your own flag to wave at home.

If you have a printer at home, you can print off the flag to colour in or if not, ask your adult to help you copy the Union Jack flag below on a piece of paper.

Here are a couple of songs you can listen to when completing your activities including our National Anthem. Can you have a go at singing along with it? The words are on the video.
