As part of our Design and Technology project we are designing a raincoat for Baby Bear. As a class we researched a variety of existing coats and discussed their positives and negatives. In small groups, the children then designed a coat. They came up with two designs and then a final design. The children made links to their knowledge gained in Science about what material would be best for a raincoat and then used their creativity to make it look appealing.
The children then used recycled plastics to make their coats. They cut the material suing scissors and then joined the pieces using glue. Some children then sewed buttons on using a needle and thread.
As part of our next Science lesson the children will be testing the coats to see if they are suitable for a raincoat. This will support their evaluation of their product.
