A weird day!

Some of you will have realised that today would have been our first day of taking the SATs.

With everything that is going on in the world at the moment, we know that thinking about the SATs should be the last thing on our minds as our health, both physically and mentally, as well as our friends and family for most people will be their first priority. But this doesn’t mean that you won’t be thinking about them.

For some of you, you may be jumping for joy that you don’t have to take the tests and some of you may be feeling a bit of sadness. I would imagine, that for a lot of us, it’s a little bit of both.

The SATs are something that have probably been at the back of your mind for a few years now. Thinking that they were this goal post, this finish line that you were running to get to even if this race was one that made you feel a bit nervous or anxious.

You have all been told that these tests only look at part of who you are. They don’t test how creative you are or how well you can kick a ball or how big your heart is but, for some of you, these tests have taken up a lot of space in your minds for quite a while and it is completely normal to feel a little bit ‘off’ today. I’m not saying that you should feel that way (it is great if you don’t) but if you do, then it is OK.

So I thought we could have a Non-SATs week and you could share with me all of the fun things you are doing at home instead of being in school, sitting behind a desk in silence and completing a test.

You could send in a photo of the things you have done (send a picture and put my name in the subject box to admin@st-agnes.manchester.sch.uk) or you could comment on this post and tell me about the great things you are doing to keep your minds active.

Below are some of the activities that have been shared with me already from your classmates.

Poetry writing from Attifa

Cooking samosas with Annissa

Just remember that these tests were only a small part of your schooling career. They may seem like a big deal at the moment but trust me, you will still go on to high school where you will have PLENTY of work to do. You will still go on to complete your GCSEs and you will all go on to find a career which utilises your talents and makes you happy. You never know, the things you have done during this time at home could lead to a future career. Some of you may go on to become a master chef after spending time cooking and baking with your parents. Some of you might become a ‘Youtube’ star after all the time you have spent online and some of you might go on to become a doctor or a scientist after seeing what the world has gone through.

So have a happy ‘Non-SATs’ week!
