This is an artist called Henry Moore.
Henry Spencer Moore (1898-1986) was one of the most important British artists of the 20th century. He was most famous for his sculptures of human beings, which are called ‘semi abstract’. This means that you can tell that they are human bodies, but they do not look exactly like them.
Some of his sculptures are small, others are huge and can be found in parks and open spaces.
Henry Moore also produced some drawings of the underground air-raid shelters.
Look at his birth-date above. How old was he during WW2?
Yesterday, we looked at photographs taken at the time. They seem to show people who are quite comfortable in the shelters, decorating them and making the best of a bad situation.
Take a look at his drawings.
What impression do they give of life in the air-raid shelters?
Can you write a list of words that come in to your head as you look at them?
Do you think his drawings are a reliable source of evidence? Again, your answer can be yes, no or a bit of both.
