Rotation

If you put a piece of paper on a table and place your pen in the middle of it, you can rotate the paper whilst keeping the pen in a fixed position.

In doing this you are rotating the paper about its centre.

90 degree rotation (1/4 of a turn)

In your SATS tests you will not simply be asked to rotate a shape to score a mark. You are more likely to be asked to Rotate a shape on a quadrant and will either be asked to follow a given set of coordinates or identify the missing coordinates for a rotated shape. Use the following information, videos and tasks to prepare yourself for next weeks work.  CLICK THE IMAGE BELOW

The Red rectangle has been rotated in the quadrant 90 degrees anti-clockwise from the point of rotation ( 1, -3).

How can you ROTATE tricky shapes in the quadrant when you can’t use tracing paper.
