Unicef Rights Respecting School Award | Shaftesbury Park

Over the last few days we have been looking at what life was like for evacuee children in WW2. Today, we will be looking at the UNICEF rights of the child, and thinking about the rights of children during evacuation.

REMEMBER- the UNICEF rights of the child did not come into existence until 1989, therefore children during WW2 weren’t protected by the convention. However, they were cared about by Government and parents.

Today, we’d like you to look at your list of pros and cons you made yesterday. Then take a look at the UNICEF rights of the child poster. Can you match any of the items on your list with a right you have today?

For example,  you may have said a positive element of evacuation was that children were safer in the country. This would match with Article 19:
You should not be harmed and should
be looked after and kept safe.

How many more can you link?
