Good morning Year 1. What are your plans for today? I am going to do my school work and then sit in the garden and read my book (unless its raining – then I’ll sit on my couch). Whatever you choose to do, have a lovely day.

Phonics
We have learned there are three different ways to represent the igh sound:
igh – which we learned in Phase 3
ie – which we learned in Phase 5
i-e – which we also learned in Phase 5
Look at the pictures in the table below. Write igh in your home learning book and then write the words to go with the pictures, in a list underneath. Do the same for ie and i-e.
Now choose three of the words, one for each of the representations and write sentences using them. Do not forget capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Maths
Today we are going to be looking at comparing time.
Let’s revisit some key information about time.
There are 24 hours in a day.

Science
Can you remember which group we learned about last week? That’s correct – it was birds. Can you tell somebody in your family a fact you can remember about birds?
We have now learned about all the groups that animals can be put into:
Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians, Fish and Birds
Let’s see what you have learned. Click on the link below and in your home learning book, for each animal write, for example:
A shark is a ____________________ (fill in whether you think it is a mammal, reptile, amphibian, fish or bird)
I know this because ___________________________________________ (write features of that animal group)
Here are the definitions of each animal group to help you
You can draw the animals as well if you want to but you do not have to.
As we have learned, animals can be put into different groups based on the features they have in common. However, even animals that are in different groups can have features that are the same. An animal that is a reptile could have some features the same as an animal that is a mammal!!
Click on the link below and go through each page. Discuss with somebody in your family how the animals in the pictures are the same and how they are different. You can write your ideas in your home learning book if you want to but you do not have to.
PowerPoint – Comparing Animals
Click on the link below to play an animal matching game. As you see the animals, name them and say which group they belong to. If you want a challenge, can you say why they belong to that group?

If you email your work to admin@st-agnes.manchester.sch.uk we can put it on the website to share with your friends.
Handwriting
Watch the Espresso video for how to write w. Can you remember which letter family w belongs to?
Practise with your magic pencil in the air. Ask someone in your family to put a little bit of flour, salt or sugar (any powder will do) on a plate and practise making w in it.
Now practise writing w on the sheet in LAST HALF TERM’s home learning pack. Remember to start at the top and stay inside the grey line.
